Is it just me or did 2013 end stuck in fast-forward mode, and 2014 has continued on that same speed?
How are we already a month into 2014?
I’m excited for the new year, and finally feeling settled into it.
So let’s do this. I love the start of a new year. Who knows what it will bring?
I’m ready to make this year awesome.

A home-made cookie tastes great any day. But a Christmas cookie? There’s something about baking batches of cookies for friends and family that make them taste just a little bit better than a regular cookie.
This year I’m dusting off the stand mixer and making two of my favourites: the sugar cookie and the Linzer cookie. I’m also trying a new recipe out – any cookie that combines cocoa, pistachios and sea salt has to be good, right?
As most of the dough needs to chill for at least a few hours, I like to make my dough one day and then chill or freeze it until I’m ready to bake. It breaks up the overwhelming amount of work that making, baking and decorating cookies can seem to be if you try to do it all in one day. Careful planning and a glass of wine also seems to help the process.
I’m pumped to finish all my baking this week – they’ll be done just in time for friends and family to gobble them up this weekend.
Oh, and Bon Appetit has some great tips on making that perfect sugar cookie.
Black. It’s my favourite colour for my outfits and my home.
It can be edgy. It can be glamorous. It can be comforting.
I have secret fantasies going for a black kitchen. Maybe my next house.
Every room and outfit can benefit from a shot of black.
This fall I’m trying to sneak a shot of gold into my typically black-based outfits.
It’s a classic combination (and I’m not just saying that because it’s my alma mater’s colours).

A boat. A river. The cottage life. Gets me every time.
Pontoon by Little Big Town has to be one of my most favourite summer songs. The video is fantastic – seriously, the styling makes me drool.
Sequins, kegs, golf and a boat? Count this girl in.
And although Sperry’s may be more practical for a boat – don’t count on me to make that choice. Why go smart when you can go for a platform with chains and beading instead?
So there’s been a break on StyledWrite. A silence. A long pause.
I’ve been dealing with some crummy health issues. Between illness, hospital visits and recuperation time, I lost the desire to do anything other than sleep and drink tea.
So today I hope you welcome me back.
I’m feeling better, on the mend and craving some sunshine and new shoes. Since Mother Nature is not playing along (it’s currently snowing outside), I present you two videos that put me in a summery mood. Today I’m featuring shoes I’m craving and a bouncy tune.
Overcast dull days drove me to find brightness and texture. From flower petals to animal prints I found the contrast and colour I needed to shake off grey weather.
I know I’m late to the game, but I needed a pep talk today.
And yes, I will always choose dancing over crying. And so should you.
Let’s get to it.
Every so often I like to pamper my girlfriends. While going out for drinks, dinner or movies is always fun, sometimes you need a great night in to catch up, have a dance party and laugh out loud without bothering anyone.
This upcoming weekend I’m planning a night to celebrate sweet friends who’ve been with me through thick and thin.
Girls night requirements include good food, icy drinks, and sweet treats. Comfy clothes, fun manicures and lots of chatter complete the night. And will continue the next morning over hot coffee.
For this weekend I’m craving:
Bon Appetit nachos. I’m going to make a dairy free version.
A zesty version of my favourite drink.
Girly cupcakes inspired by one of my favourite blogs.
And for fun, I may just throw this in:
Because bacon+popcorn+cashews = the perfect nightcap.
What do you do for a fun girl’s night?
Happy 1st of December! I’m excited for the holiday season to kick off.
I’m heading to the One of a Kind show today. I’ve never been – which is shocking to me – and I’m really looking forward to the event. Everything made by artisans from North America? So great.
I’m hoping to get inspired for the holiday and potentially cross some people off my shopping list.
What do you do to get in the festive season?
This write girl loves to make life pretty: whether it’s a beautifully laid table, an on trend new nail polish, or a homemade recipe made for people I love, a little style can make a big difference. I believe in living my life beautifully. I want to share that love.
It’s ok to take the time to make something fresh and from scratch, to take pride in how you look when you leave the house, and to make your bed everyday. We live in such a fast and forward focused post-industrial world. I’d like to take the time to reflect on the here and the now.
Not everyone has to be a homemaker, plan parties or be dressed in the latest fashion (what’s the fun if we all look the same?). But everyone should find beauty in their daily lives. I can’t wait to share my daily beauty; styled and written by me.
